Ethno Babai

Ethno Babai

Ethno babai – a small family business that started in one small village in Yaremche, by Myroslava who was passionate about her family’s tradition of Hutsul “lyzhnyk” waving that they kept for decades. From grandparents to parents, from parents to kids, they grew up soaking the craft with each woollen thread. Myroslava’s family, with whom she works together, is using old traditional devices called “motovylo” and an organic wool to create one rug. The whole process is made by hands and takes up to one week. The oldest types of Hutsul lizhnyk were normally monochromatic and cross-striped. The colour pallet was dictated by the natural colour of the wool: white, two shades of grey, brown and black tones. Nowadays you can find lizhnyks of any color you wish - the wool gets dyed easily. Although, the family has its own sheep which wool with it’s natural color they use in work.
